Well, let me tell you, when buying a large 11' market umbrella became and issue between my husband and myself, I turned to Hayneedle! We were at odds over keeping it afloot. Our summer home is on the Chesapeake Bay and the breezes can turn into high winds. I went looking for an umbrella stand that could handle the weather, that's when the fights broke out! He said," your not paying $150 to $200 dollars for a stand we'll use a boat anchor first!" So it became my job to find something good looking and HEAVY! Hayneedle and Fatboy thank You! Best price ever and free shipping. There is no way this is going to tip over unless it's a tropical storm. It's big, heavy, and flat, I like it because I can cover the base with plants. He said, "you'll never find anything, I'll end up making something heavy that you'll hate on the deck." Well needless to say I won the dispute. One point for Me and Hayneedle.

I was going to buy a base that is sand filled to keep the cost low. Then i thought I should step it up in quality. Then I was going to buy the concrete filled stand with cost on the brain, still. But... I started thinking of the thickness of the base & although this stand was double the price. I really needed a stand that is very thin on the base so that my chairs could be pushed in completely when not in use (we are working w/small patio space). I splurged & I wouldn't change a thing! We don't get much wind and when we do, I'm thinking a 50lb base will handle it. Functionality was what I was going for & that's what I got.[...]
